"shacking" in Japanese

同棲する仮住まいする

Definition

恋愛関係にある男女が結婚せずに一緒に住むこと。または、簡素な場所に一時的に滞在することも指します。

くだけた表現で、現代ではやや古い感じも出ます。主に未婚カップルの同棲を表現します（“shacking up”）。正式な場では使いません。“shack”だけだと粗末な家の意味です。

They have been shacking up since college.

彼らは大学時代から**同棲しています**。

My brother is shacking in a cabin for the summer.

兄は夏の間キャビンで**仮住まいしています**。

We are shacking together until we find an apartment.

アパートが見つかるまで私たちは**一緒に同棲しています**。

I can’t believe she’s shacking up with her new boyfriend already.
