Definition

分離とは、人や物、グループが分けられたり、離されたりする状態や過程を指します。感情的、物理的、または法的に一緒にいないことも含みます。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

「分離」はフォーマル・インフォーマルどちらでも使えます。「physical separations」や「legal separations」などの組み合わせで登場します。「divorce（離婚）」とは異なり、結婚関係だけに使いません。
