실제와 달리 겉으로만 보이는 모습이나 형태를 뜻합니다.

격식체이며 주로 문어체에서 쓰입니다. 'semblance of order'(겉보기의 질서)처럼 실제와는 다르거나 표면만 그럴 때 씁니다.

She tried to keep a semblance of calm during the emergency.
