Luces muy potentes que se pueden mover y apuntar en diferentes direcciones, generalmente para buscar algo o iluminar una gran zona, especialmente de noche.

Normalmente se usa en plural. Se asocia con contextos militares, policiales o eventos; "searchlights" suele transmitir la imagen de haces de luz que barren el cielo. También puede usarse en sentido figurado para indicar escrutinio intenso.
