Definition

短い歩幅で素早く動くこと。小動物や急いでいる人によく使われます。また、船を意図的に沈める意味もあります。

主にねずみや小さな動物によく使われますが、人が素早く部屋を出る時などにも使います。船に使う場合は専門的でフォーマルな表現です。「scuttled away」で素早くこっそり去るニュアンスになります。
