Definition

누군가에게 직접 말을 건네거나, 어떤 말을 전하는 것.

'say to'는 듣는 상대방을 강조할 때 사용하며, 'say to someone'처럼 쓴다. 'tell'과 달리 직접 목적어만 쓸 수 없고 반드시 'to'가 필요하다.

She said to her friend, "Let's go!"

그녀는 친구에게 '가자!'고 **말했다**.

I say to my teacher, "Thank you."

나는 선생님께 '감사합니다'라고 **말한다**.
