道路の中央に島があり、車がその周りを回る交差点のことです。比喩的に、遠回しや回りくどい表現にも使われますが、交通の意味が最も一般的です。

ラウンドアバウトは主に交通で使われ、イギリス英語で一般的です。アメリカ英語では'traffic circle'も使います。形容詞や副詞で「遠回し（な）」の意味もありますが、少ない用法です。
