설문조사나 연구에서 질문에 답하는 사람, 또는 소송에서 답변하는 사람이다.

법률에서는 '피고', 연구와 설문에서는 '응답자'로 구분해 사용합니다. 'plaintiff'의 반대 의미입니다.

The respondent answered all the survey questions honestly.

**응답자**는 모든 설문 질문에 정직하게 답했다.

The respondent will speak in court next week.

**피고**가 다음 주 법정에서 진술할 예정이다.

Each respondent gave a different opinion.
