무언가를 물리적으로 꽉 잡고 있던 손을 느슨하게 하거나, 무언가 또는 누군가에 대한 통제나 권한을 줄이다.

비유적으로 많이 쓰임. 단순히 잡고 있던 걸 놓는 게 아니라, 감정·부모·리더십 등 통제를 줄인다는 뜻도 있음. 'grip', 'control' 등과도 사용됨. 'relax and hold on'과 혼동하지 말 것.
