恐怖やショック、または何かの力で急に後ろに下がること。物理的にも感情的にも使う。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

感情的に使うときはやや堅い・文学的な表現（例：'recoil in horror'「恐怖で後ずさる」）。物理的な反動（特に銃）によく使う。普通の「下がる」は別に表現する。
