Birine veya bir şeye karşı özellikle zor bir durumda veya fiziksel bir mücadelede direnmeye ya da karşı koymaya çalışmak.

Genellikle haberlerde ve resmi raporlarda geçer. 'put up a struggle' direnmek anlamında kullanılır; 'didn't put up a struggle' ise kolayca teslim olmak anlamına gelir. Hem fiziksel hem de duygusal anlamda kullanılabilir.
