종교적이거나 신비로운 방식으로 미래에 어떤 일이 일어날 것이라고 말하거나 예측하는 것.

문어체나 공식적인 상황에서 쓰이며, 예언자, 종교적 문서, 신비로운 예측과 관련이 많다. 'prophesies'(동사)와 'prophecies'(명사)를 혼동하지 않도록 주의. 일상 대화에서는 거의 쓰이지 않는다.
