自分の信念や感情、意図などを公に言うこと。時には本心でないことを言う場合もある。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

「say」や「claim」よりもフォーマルで文語的。「profess love/faith/innocence」などによく使われ、普段の会話ではあまり登場しない。真実性に疑問がある場合にも用いられる。
