序文や前書きは、本の冒頭で著者が目的や背景、本がどのようにして書かれたかを説明する文章です。

「序文」や「前書き」は主に本や学術書で使われ、著者自身が執筆します。「foreword（序言）」は他の人が書きます。「introduction（序章）」は内容紹介なので区別に注意しましょう。
