主に馬や鹿などが元気に跳ねるように歩く様子を指します。また、サンタクロースのトナカイの名前としても有名です。

日常会話ではあまり使われませんが、サンタのトナカイ名では大文字の“Prancer”と表記します。動物を表すときは文学的・詩的な表現です。
