Definition
ポピュリストとは、特に政治家が一般市民の利益を代表していると主張し、既存のエリート層や権力者に反対する人のことです。また、一般大衆に訴える政策や考え方にも使われます。
Usage Notes (Japanese)
通常は政治の場面で使われます。「人々を代表する」肯定的な意味にも、「単純化しすぎる」否定的な意味にもなります。「ポピュリスト指導者」「ポピュリスト政党」といった使われ方が多いです。「人気者」とは異なります。
