यह अभिव्यक्ति बोलचाल की और अनौपचारिक है। केवल मरने का नाटक नहीं, बल्कि मुश्किलें टालने के लिए अनजान या उदासीन बनना भी शामिल है। 'play dead' समान है, लेकिन 'play possum' चालाकी/टालने पर केंद्रित है।
