Fazer algo parecer menos importante, sério ou significativo do que realmente é.

Normalmente informal ou neutro. Usado para situações em que se tenta fazer um problema ou erro parecer menos grave. Expressões comuns: 'play down the risks', 'play down the incident'. Não confundir com 'play up' (enfatizar/exagerar).
