यह शब्द मात्रा बताने वाली अभिव्यक्तियों में बहुत आम है: 'two pieces of cake', 'missing pieces', 'a few pieces of advice' (ध्यान दें, 'advice' खुद uncountable है)। अर्थ संदर्भ पर निर्भर करता है: यह किसी चीज़ के भौतिक टुकड़े, किसी सेट की इकाइयाँ, या कलात्मक रचनाएँ हो सकता है। 'a piece of paper' और 'a piece of music' जैसे fixed phrases में 'piece' ज़्यादा स्वाभाविक है, 'part' नहीं।
