'Peck at'는 비격식적 표현으로 사람과 동물 모두에 쓴다. 음식에 자주 쓰이며(예: 'peck at your food') 흥미나 식욕이 없을 때, 혹은 까다롭게 먹을 때 쓴다. 새가 쪼는 행동에도 쓴다. 많은 양을 먹을 때는 쓰지 않는 점 유의. 'pick at'과 비슷하지만 동일하지 않다.
