指信仰世界主要宗教以外的精神或宗教信仰的人，特別是在基督教、猶太教或伊斯蘭教出現之前的信仰者。有時也指崇拜自然、多神或擁有傳統民間信仰的人。

“異教徒”多用於歷史或學術語境，有時帶有貶義。現今有些人自稱異教徒（見新異教主義）。勿用'異教徒'作為侮辱，容易冒犯他人。
