被某人或某物以更快速度或更大成功超越。常用于形容在路上被车辆超车，或在成就或数量上被超过。

常以被动语态出现（was overtaken）。用于交通中的车辆超车，或指业绩、数量上被超越。通常后接'by...'（was overtaken by...）。不用于走路时简单地超过别人。
