Uma saliência é uma parte que se projeta além da base, como a borda de um telhado ou uma pedra que se estende sobre o que está por baixo.

'Overhang' é principalmente usado em contextos técnicos, arquitetónicos ou geográficos, como em 'roof overhang' ou 'rock overhang'. Também pode ser usado como verbo ('the balcony overhangs the street'). Raramente usado fora destas áreas.
