人々を残酷に、不公平に、または厳しく扱い、自由や権利を制限すること。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

主に政府や権力者が不当に権力を使うときに使われる強い表現。「minority」「people」「rights」とよく一緒に使う。「depress」「suppress」とは意味が異なるので注意。
