Definition
Empezar a disparar un arma, especialmente armas de fuego, a personas u objetivos. También puede referirse a iniciar el uso de la fuerza en un conflicto.

Expresión formal y militar. Muy común en noticias, contextos históricos o policiales. No se usa para encender fuego de campamento o cocinar (significa algo diferente). Normalmente se refiere a armas de fuego.
