어떤 것을 주의 깊게 살펴 사실이나 변화를 알아차리는 행위. 또는 관찰한 것에 대한 의견이나 발언을 의미하기도 함.

일상, 학문, 과학 등 다양한 분야에서 사용. 의견 의미로는 '의견'(comment)보다 더 격식 있음. 많이 쓰는 표현: 'careful observation', 'make an observation', 'under observation'.
