중요한 정보를 공식적으로 또는 정식으로 누군가에게 알리는 것. 주로 메시지, 이메일, 공지 등을 통해 전달된다.

'알리다' 보다 공식적이고 격식 있는 상황(회사, 학교, 법적 상황 등)에서 씀. 'notify of', 'notify about', 'notify someone that'와 같이 쓰이고, 수동형으로 '통지 받다' 등으로도 사용됨.

She is notifying her boss about the meeting.
