Definition

物を覆ったりして、音を静かにしたり、はっきりしなくすること。また、何かの強さや目立ち方を和らげる意味もある。

よく「音」「声」「足音」などに使う。音以外に感情や影響を和らげる場合にも使われる。フォーマルな表現。
