Definition

地面から高くそびえ、急な斜面を持つ大きな陸地です。

「山」は大きくて高い山のみを指し、小さい丘には使いません。比喩的に「a mountain of work」のように使えます。「the mountains」は山岳地帯全体を指すこともあります。

We climbed the mountain yesterday.
