妊娠中に赤ちゃんが母体の外で生きられる前に自然に失われること。たいていは自然な原因で、意図的ではありません。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

医学的・フォーマルな場で使われることが多く、過去形（「流産した」）が一般的。「中絶」とは異なります。「流産を経験した」という表現もよく使われます。デリケートな話題なので、軽はずみに口にしないよう注意が必要です。
