直す修理する繕う

Definition

壊れたものや傷んだ服などを直して元に戻すこと。

「mends」は三人称単数現在形。「服を直す」など日常でよく使われ、「sews（縫う）」より幅広く使える言葉です。フォーマルではなく日常会話で使われます。

She mends her dress when it gets torn.

彼女はドレスが破れたら自分で**繕います**。

My grandfather mends old shoes for people.

祖父は人々のために古い靴を**直します**。

He mends the broken toy with glue.
