'স্মারকলিপি' বেশি ফরমাল ও অফিসিয়াল প্রসঙ্গে ব্যবহৃত হয়। 'interoffice memorandum', 'memorandum of understanding' ইত্যাদি পদে পাওয়া যায়। সাধারণ নোট বা চিঠির চেয়ে বেশি আনুষ্ঠানিক।
