'Make headway' é formal ou neutro e usado para progresso lento ou difícil, geralmente em trabalho, negociações ou aprendizados. Normalmente vem com 'on', 'in', ou 'with' (ex: 'make headway on a project'). Não usado para conquistas rápidas nem para deslocamento físico.
