Definition

معاقبة شخص بقسوة لتحذير الآخرين من ارتكاب نفس الفعل، أي إظهار نتائج خرق القواعد.

Usage Notes (Arabic)

غالباً استخدام سلبي، ويعني معاقبة الشخص علناً للردع. شائع بين المدرسين أو المسؤولين. لا تخلط بينها وبين 'set an example' (أن تكون قدوة حسنة). الأكثر شيوعاً: 'make an example of someone'.
