वह भूमि जो आसपास के क्षेत्रों से नीचे होती है, आमतौर पर बहुत पहाड़ी या पर्वतीय नहीं होती।

अधिकतर भौगोलिक या वैज्ञानिक संदर्भ में प्रयोग होता है; 'highland' के विपरीत। बड़े क्षेत्र के लिए अक्सर बहुवचन ('the lowlands') में होता है।
