語言學家是指研究語言的人，可以是科學研究，也可以是懂得多種語言的人。

'語言學家'既可指研究語言的專家，也可指會多種語言的人，但學術上多指語言科學家。和單純會多語的'多語者'(polyglot)有區別。常見如'應用語言學家'、'法醫語言學家'。
