何かを点けて明るくすること。また、顔や目が喜びや興奮で輝くことも指す。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

カジュアルな表現。照明や火をつけるときや、顔や目が輝くときに使う。'light up a room' は部屋を明るくする意味、'eyes lit up' は喜ぶ様子。タバコを点ける時（light up a cigarette）にも用いる。
