Sepultar alguém após a morte, ou pôr fim a um problema, dúvida ou boato para que deixe de preocupar.

Pode ser literal (enterrar) ou figurativo (resolver problemas/rumores). Usa-se de forma formal ou sensível, como em 'lay someone to rest' (sepultar) e 'lay a rumor to rest' (acabar com um boato). 'Put to rest' também existe, mas é menos formal.
