“Lay off”在商务英语中较常用,语气半正式,通常指因经济原因被裁员,不是因为员工失误。常见被动用法:'I was laid off.' 不同于“fire”(因违规、表现差被解雇)。口语中还有“别做某事了”的意思,如'Lay off the sweets!',但和工作无关。
