Definition
“Lapping” descreve o som ou movimento suave da água contra uma superfície, ou a forma como um animal bebe água com a língua. Pode referir-se tanto ao som como ao movimento.

Muito utilizado em contextos descritivos e poéticos, especialmente sobre água (“the waves lapping at the shore”). Também para o modo como animais bebem (“The cat is lapping up the milk”). Não se usa para pessoas. Pode ser confundido com “lapping up” no sentido de ‘aproveitar’.
