何かや誰かを注意深く見守って、守ったり監督したりすること。悪いことが起きないように気をつけるという意味です。

ややフォーマルな表現で、家や子ども、病人を見守る場合によく使います。一度見るだけでなく、継続的に注意を払う意味です。
