物事が増えたり外に出たりしないように抑えること。また、食べ物や飲み物を吐かずに我慢することも指す。

カジュアルな言い方でよく使われる。'keep down the noise' や 'can't keep food down' のように、音や値段、食べ物・飲み物に関して使う。 'keep up' とは意味が異なるので注意。
