تعبير اصطلاحي غير رسمي. يُستخدم غالبًا للسيطرة على المشاعر ("keep a lid on your anger"), المواقف ("keep a lid on spending") أو الأسرار ("keep a lid on the news"). لا يُستخدم بالمعنى الحرفي عن الأغطية. يعادل "السيطرة" أو "الكتمان".
