Definition

誰かにイベントや場所に丁寧に来るよう頼むこと。

普通は「誰かをパーティーに招待する」などの形で使う。'invite for'（食事の場合）は日本語では「〜に招待する」を使うので、イベントや場所には「〜に招待する」でよい。

They invite to their home every year for dinner.

彼らは毎年夕食に自宅に**招待します**。
