짧은 기간 동안만 사용되거나 적용되는 것으로, 영구적인 것이 정해질 때까지 임시로 쓰인다.

주로 'interim manager', 'interim solution'처럼 공식적, 격식을 차린 상황에서 사용한다. 일상 대화에서는 잘 쓰지 않는다.
