기존 정부나 권위에 맞서 무력으로 저항하는 사람을 말한다. 주로 무장 단체의 구성원을 가리킬 때 사용된다.

정치적·군사적 맥락에서 공식적으로 사용되며, 단순한 시위자보다 강한 무장 저항 의미를 포함한다. 'insurgent group', 'insurgent attack'와 같이 쓴다.
