Definition

多くの望ましくない虫や動物などが場所に入り込んで広がり、害や問題を引き起こすこと。

主に科学的・医療的、害虫駆除の文脈で使われます。「infestation of ～」の形で「rat（ネズミ）の蔓延」などと一緒に用いられ、軽度ではなく深刻な場合に限られます。'infection'（感染症）とは区別してください。
