経済が主に農業中心から製造業や工業中心へと転換していく過程のこと。

主に歴史や経済、社会の授業などで使われるフォーマルな言葉。「国の産業化」「急速な産業化」「産業化の影響」などのフレーズでよく使われます。都市化（urbanization）とは区別します。
