胃で分解・消化できないもの。または、内容や情報が難解で理解しづらい時にも使われます。

主に医学やフォーマルな場面で食べ物について使われますが、理解しづらい文章・話題にも比喩として使われます（例：消化できないレポート）。日常会話ではあまり使いません。
