경찰 등 공권력이 규정 위반이나 조사를 위해 물건을 가져가 보관하는 것.

주로 법적, 공식 상황에서 사용하며 'impound a vehicle(차량을 압수하다)'처럼 많이 쓰임. 'seize'와 달리 공식적으로 보관하는 의미가 큼.

The police impounded his car because he was parked illegally.
